In 2015, Yonebayashi left with producer Yoshiaki Nishimura and established Studio Ponoc. His first film at the new studio was Mary and the Witch's Flower. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2015 for his second film, When Marnie Was There.
